Blog # 5 A look into Narrative Writing

 Hi guys,

In this blog I'll explore Narrative Writing.

Narrative writing is a type of writing that is required in primary,  secondary and tertiary education. As we explore narrative writing in our LIT 102 session we watched a short clip called 'Husband Caught Cheating." It was a You Tube clip that brought us on a journey through the lives of a married woman and her husband. I found the Clip quite interesting and what I liked the most was the suspense and twist in the story. We were all fooled thinking that in fact the husband cheated. The author incorporate different scenarios and road blocks to convince the viewers that the husband was actually cheating. I like the fact that the  author used everyday cheating tactics in the clip. At the end the husband was not cheating but rather was broke. Oh how we were misled. Although the actors did not play their role properly,  the clip was very convincing.  This clip also showed us hoe to explode the moment, keeping everyone in suspense

From the clip I have learnt that narrative writing must engage the readers' imagination and emotions. Also one must use showing sentences and not telling sentences , to allow the readers to draw their own conclusions. Narrative writing has key elements as Setting, Characters, Plot and problem. These elements help build the story, make it exciting and interesting however for this to happen students must be exposed to various writing samples and  practice writing often in class. As a result the onus is on us ,the teachers, to ensure that we introduce narrative writing to students at an early age. Children love listening to their teacher read aloud to them.

How often do you read aloud to your students?

As teacher we must encourage the students to start their stories with a lead or bang. For me, I encourage my students to start with an action lead or sound lead.. An action lead uses many action verbs and suspense. A sound lead uses a sound to  start this can definitely grab the readers attention There are other leads that can be used. Try to introduce students to a variety of lead  they can use to improve their narrative pieces. For example
