Mr. Persuasive Writing

Image
Hello there,  Today I will be blogging about Persuasive Writing. Ingredients 2 cups of Rhetorical questions 3 cups of Exaggeration 1 cup of emotional appeal A tablespoon of contrast A tablespoon of repetition 5 cups of Authoritative  Evidence Procedure  First start with an introduction Add your hook, stance and your thesis Second put your first body paragraph Add all the ingredients Present your topic sentence clearly with examples  along with a closing remark. Add your second paragraph and follow the step above Add your  third paragraph and peel. Finally mix your closing paragraph. The recipe above is something I will try to keep in my head when writing  a persuasive piece. This piece of writing, I find the most difficult to write. I think mainly because it does not really require creativity or imagination but rather facts. So a lot of research is needed. There must be an emotional appeal and trust me you need to elaborate and give a lot o...

3 Stars 1 wish

Image
Hi LIT Fam,  I choose to blog about the 3 stars and a wish tool that was used on different occasions in our LIT class. I was drawn to it because it can be used as a self assessment or a whole class assessment base on a child's writing. Also because it can be a great motivator for students which can help boost their confidence when it comes to writing or reading. The 3 stars and a wish activity allows students to reflect on their writing and doing so can help them take ownership of their writing which leads to responsibility. In one of our session volunteers were asked to share their narrative pieces and the class use the 3 stars 1 wish tool to comment on them. It was a quite rewarding session because most times when critiquing a piece of writing one tend to stick mostly on the negatives and what was not good about the writing  rather than what was done well. However with this tool it makes you tell three things that was good about the story and I wish that can improve t...

Stages of Writing Development

Hi t here ,   Have you ever gotten a piece of writing from a student and had no idea what was written on it? From scribbles, drawing, symbols in between letters and well-developed sentences. Young children's writing follows a pattern. They move through a series of changes as they learn to write. These stages reflect their knowledge of letters, sound and spacing of words. There are many models of writing development, however in our LIT session we looked at a model from Rog (2007). According to Rog there are four (4) stages: Emergent, Early, Developing and Fluent. Let me share a brief insight to each stage. For emergent writers although they understand that writing conveys a message they scribble or draw to represent stories. They grip the pencil tightly and have a short attention span. These can appear anywhere on the page. On the other hand, the early writers can put letters together to form words, they use invented spelling and have knowledge of high fr...

Blog # 5 A look into Narrative Writing

Image
Hi guys,  In this blog I'll explore Narrative Writing. Narrative writing is a type of writing that is required in primary,  secondary and tertiary education. As we explore narrative writing in our LIT 102 session we watched a short clip called 'Husband Caught Cheating." It was a You Tube clip that brought us on a journey through the lives of a married woman and her husband. I found the Clip quite interesting and what I liked the most was the suspense and twist in the story. We were all fooled thinking that in fact the husband cheated. The author incorporate different scenarios and road blocks to convince the viewers that the husband was actually cheating. I like the fact that the  author used everyday cheating tactics in the clip. At the end the husband was not cheating but rather was broke. Oh how we were misled. Although the actors did not play their role properly,  the clip was very convincing.  This clip also showed us hoe to explode the moment, keepin...

Blog # 4The Zoom In strategy in Writing

Image
Hey lovelies,  Let's zoom in! I am all excited to blog today. Hope you are also. In class we learned a rather interesting writing strategy called 'Zoom in'.  Let me take you on the journey of zooming in.To be prepare we were all asked to walk with our cameras. No one knew what was awaiting us that day in class. Suspense much! With our cameras in our hands and smiles on our faces due to the fact that we were outside, we ventured on  for a nature walk by the beautiful Botanical Garden. Our task was to capture the whole gardens with one shot using our cameras. What a task it was. I captured some beautiful shots but it was not what the task required,  I can recall seeing everyone trying so desperately to get that shot. We tried to find the perfect location  and placed our camera in various angles in order to be successful in the task given to us. At one point I  said to  Ronelle and Rowann that the objective of the task is impossible to achieve. A...
