Blog #2 First Glance of the Writing Process
Hey guys,
It is me again getting the hang of this blogging thing. Promoting Writing in Primary School sessions has been a real eye wakener. To top it off our lecturer always takes her time and uses various strategies to ensure that learning is taking place. The writing process is one of the topics we delved into this week, As I listened to Mrs. Lazarus explain it, I thought to myself this can be time consuming. However, as she delved deeper into it, I realized how easier it makes writing is for children. Wow! Also, I never thought it could be so simple to implement once you, the teacher, understands the stages and how important it is for students to be given the opportunity to brainstorm their ideas and give a first draft of their writing. Personally, for me as a teacher I do not enjoy marking composition, however as I ponder on what was taught about the writing process, I do believe that utilizing it in the classroom can eliminate my lack of enthusiasm in doing so.
The writing process requires a lot of practice hence as teachers we must provide opportunities for the students to get the practice needed to become better writers. As a teacher student at T.A.M.C.C the writing process can be very helpful to me as I tackle the various assignments given to us. One of our assignment is to observe a student's writing and I do believe that being exposed to the writing process and understanding the writing process will aid in successfully completing the task.

ReplyDeleteHi Shirdin, yes, the writing process seems like a tiresome process, however, I believe it will be worth it in the end. Students generally do not like to write and that basically stems from not knowing what to write. However, I believe that when we as teachers, take the time to adequately model and expose them to techniques that will assist them in generating ideas, then it will start making sense to them. The gradual release of responsibility technique I believe is a great way to start the process, I do, we do, you do. The use of graphic organisers acting as a visual representation, assists students with generating and even organising ideas. If we don't' teach the kids how to generate ideas and follow through with the other steps in the process, then writing will always be a burden to students.
DeleteI believe the I do, we do, you do approach is effective in the learning and teaching process. It is also a powerful method that caters for various learning styles of students in the classroom.I agree graphic organizers can act as a visual representation to generate ideas.

Providing students with opportunities to engage in the various stages of writing will undoubtedly contribute to their growth as proficient writers.
