All About  Book



   The sessions in LIT 102 thus far have been very interested and quite informative, but what stood out most to me was the "All About Book"💖 Who would have thought that such a simple design of a book can be used in various content area to capture important aspect of a topic and highlight what is important to the child.🤷 Writing in general can be daunting for students due to the different  writing genres, understanding the writing process and getting ideas together. In a nutshell writing is a complex task. However with the "All About Book" it helps spark interest in writing through their favourite topic and  also provides an engaging reason to write. It encourages communication, it is easy to follow which makes it easier for students to write and  may highlight what is important to the child or other  book related activities. The "All About Book" can be used at any grade level and any content area. Even with this being true I think for content areas that are dense and complex, example Science, the "All About Book"  may not be the best to use. It may be impossible to cover an aspect comprehensively and have in depth information using the "All About Book."

I loved the way the "All About Book "was introduced to us in class❤. Mrs.Lazarus explicitly explained and modeled the All About Book. The primary focus was the "All About Me" book. The approach she used ensures that we fully grasp and understand what the book is about and how to use it in the classroom. She even showed us how to write a lesson when using the All About Me book.The session was very engaging as we ourselves made our own personal book and shared with the group. It was quite interesting since we pretended to be five, six and seven year old. On the other hand 

I tried the "All About book "in Social Studies under the theme Myself. The children enjoyed it, they were excited to design the covers, do illustrations and write about themselves. I am currently planning to do an "All About 2 D Shapes" in Math. I am all excited about it. I strongly believe that the "All About Book" can definitely promote writing in the classroom. Do you think you will implement the "All About Book" in your classroom?

    Yes, I am desirous of using this strategy in my classroom. I believe it will truly enhance communication since students will share their ideas with their peers as well as get them actively engaged in penning their thoughts and illustrations to paper. Not everyone can organize their ideas well and if they start off as early as the lower grades, by the time they arrive at the upper grades, their level of organization and writing skills will reach some level of mastery. It will be easier to gather and express their thoughts in their writing for their portfolios. It also allows the students to discover their creative skills. So yes, I will definitely use this in my classroom.

    Absolutely! This "All About Book" is a fantastic tool for promoting writing and engagement in the classroom. Mrs. Lazarus' approach used in class to sell the idea to us was very effective and inspiring. I'm considering implementing it in my classroom too! Even at the higher grades the book would be effective. For example at the grade 6 level instead of notes notes notes it can be done in science areas like all about the digestive system book. Good job!

  Hi LIT Fam,  I choose to blog about the 3 stars and a wish tool that was used on different occasions in our LIT class. I was drawn to it because it can be used as a self assessment or a whole class assessment base on a child's writing. Also because it can be a great motivator for students which can help boost their confidence when it comes to writing or reading. The 3 stars and a wish activity allows students to reflect on their writing and doing so can help them take ownership of their writing which leads to responsibility. In one of our session volunteers were asked to share their narrative pieces and the class use the 3 stars 1 wish tool to comment on them. It was a quite rewarding session because most times when critiquing a piece of writing one tend to stick mostly on the negatives and what was not good about the writing  rather than what was done well. Exploring the Writing Workshop

 Hi guys, It is almost the end of our Blogging session. I  hope it has been fun and inspiring. This blog is about "The Writing Workshop". Again this is quite new to me. However I considered myself quite fortunate to have given the opportunity to learn about it. In a nutshell, three strategies can be used when using the writing working:  Teaching Time , Writing Time and Sharing Time.   It can be in the form of Mini lessons . As teachers we must realize that NO students are alike and therefore they will be at various stages in developing their writing pieces.
