Blog #2 First Glance of the Writing Process

  Hey guys,    It is me again getting the hang of this blogging thing. Promoting Writing in Primary School sessions has been a real eye wakener. To top it off our lecturer always takes her time and uses various strategies to ensure that learning is taking place. The writing process is one of the topics we delved into this week, As I listened to Mrs. Lazarus explain it, I thought to myself this can be time consuming. However, as she delved deeper into it, I realized how  easier it makes  writing is for children. Wow! Also, I never thought it could be so simple to implement once you, the teacher, understands the stages and how important it is for students to be given the opportunity to brainstorm their ideas and give a first draft of their writing. Personally, for me as a teacher I do not enjoy marking composition, however as I ponder on what was taught about the writing process, I do believe that  utilizing  it in the classroom can  eliminate ...

Blog #.3 Writing Process

 Hi Colleagues, Last class we discovered more about the writing process. We looked at the stages and also discussed our experiences with it. The writing process has five stages which are recursive and not linear as a result students need time to revisit and revise their writing moving back and forth between the different stages. These stages are pre-writing, drafting, revisiting, editing and publishing. The writing process helps students organize their thoughts and ideas, write freely as first, reflect, proofread and publish. it is important to note that students need to set aside the writing for few days before editing and feedback is crucial. As I traveled back to secondary school I can vaguely remember my teacher giving us back our stories to rewrite however I cannot remember if we did the writing process. As a teacher of Grade 4 I have not really utilize the writing process in full hence I wonder if I have failed my students by doing so. I think the reason for this is because I...
